I think it's time for an update on my babies since blog posts have been scarce and they are not even babies so much anymore. I will go ahead and blame my lack of writing on a little season called, summer. Well, that and the fact that Robert is constantly at work (a good thing for all of us that he is busy) and I am here with 2 extremely active kids and no school to break up the day. It has definitely been one of the most trying times but it also has been so fulfilling to watch Harrison and Brooks become their own little person. And trust me, they are a lot of person!
Harrison, I have decided, is a lot like Robert. He needs to be in control but more importantly, he has to convince you and everyone else why his way is best and why everyone should do exactly the same. He is easily frustrated with things not going exactly according to his plan. This is a definite problem when you are in almost any public setting. But he also gets such excitement from the things that interest him and he is so engulfed in the activities he loves that it is next to impossible to try and keep him from doing it all. He has a passion for life that is contagious and I'm very excited to see what kindergarten has in store for him. He seems to be becoming very interested in learning and sometimes his smarts make me realize that I am in for a world of trouble. The other day he was acting out in the car for something he wanted. After constantly yelling and screaming at me because I was ignoring him, he said, "ok, how about if you don't say anything, I can get it." Manipulative and smart...ugh! I can't say I wasn't impressed though. He is such a sweet and loving boy and as soon as we can work out some of the kinks in his desire to control the world, we will be doing good.
And Brooks, what about that lunatic? That girl is something else. She is a bit more like me in the department of being boss. She is not going to try and convince anyone that her way is the best, she is only going to do exactly what she wants to do, regardless of what you say. If she wants to put on eight million outfits a day, done. If she wants to take all her clothes off at the grocery store and wear her panties on her head, done. (No, I do not allow this but if I turn my back for a second, it will happen.) If she wants to dance and sing at the top of her lungs in front of a large audience while shaking her hips like a show girl, with NO music, done. And not a care in the world about it. But she isn't all that laid back and easy going about things either. If things aren't going according to her plan, like Harrison, she will let you know about it. And she will fuss at you until things are back to the way she wants them. She has incredible charisma and people are always noticing her outgoing and humorous personality.
So, these are a few things that have been keeping me busy. With all the chaos that goes on, I am trying to implement a nighttime routine and a more effective way to teach both kids how to behave a little better so that I am not always such a raging lunatic. Right now, we are working with a star system for rewards which seems to be going well. I'm only writing this so that one day when Harrison and Brooks have their own kids, which I'm pretty sure will be just like them, they can read this and find the best way to work with their children. And, of course, to realize what an awesome mom I am for putting up with all their nonsense! Oh yeah, I have also been cranking out a few paintings since things are picking up in that department as well. Like I said, our life is chaos but I sure do love these little crazies and I truly do enjoy each day that I get to spend with them. They are so amazing! I also really enjoy my wine these days.
